Welcome to GRAMP.-UB

Medieval and Postmedieval Research Group of the University of Barcelona (GRAMP.-UB) is formed by an interdisciplinary team of different members from national and international institutions and is registered in the Department of Medieval History, Paleography and Diplomatics at the University of Barcelona. 

Successive works and research projects undertaken lead to the official recognition in 1995 as a Quality Research Group by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan Government) and it currently is a consolidated research group.

7th Fieldwork campaign at the Site of Revenga (Burgos, Spain)

This week, GRAMP’s researchers started a new archaeological fieldwork campaign, where the excavation in the early-middle-age village goes on. Several sunken-featured buildings and production areas have been found. Fieldwork tasks started last monday and will last until next Friday, August 13. The objectives of the campaign are to finish, if possible, the trenches opened in previous years and to register the structures cut out onto the rocky floor.

Start of the fieldwork season

Grampub2021 06 29 001The first of GRAMP’s archaeological fieldwork campaigns for this summer started today. We began the fieldwork at l’Esquerda under particular circumstances, still influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Undergraduate students in Archaeology attending at the subjects Fieldwork I and II work in two correlative shifts this week and the forthcoming next one in a new trench at this site located at the south of the Romanesque church. Work is carried on under the coordination of Dr. Albert Pratdesaba, Esther Travé and Imma Ollich. We wish them good luck!!

PhD Days on History and Archaeology

This week the PhD Days on History and Archeology take place, within the doctorate program Society and Culture of the University of Barcelona. In the next few days, the PhD candidates introduce the progress of their research and exchange experiences and impressions. Sonia Medina, a PhD student in our research group, introduces her PhD on-going research in a communication entitled “Paisajes de montaña y periferias en la Alta Edad Media: Procesos de gestión de la información para un relato histórico integrado”.

CPG2021 – Updated info!!

CPG webThis post is to provide updated information about the forthcoming CPG 2021 meeting that will be hosted by the University of Barcelona, and hold on-line entirely. Although there is good progress in overcoming the pandemic, the countries are dealing with covid at different rates, and there are so many uncertainties to organize the on-site meeting properly. In order to avoid last-minute inconvenience, we had to take a decision. However, there are also good news! This year we will organize the first on-line microscope session within the meeting

Archaeological fieldwork at the site of Santa Margarida (Martorell)

The archaeological fieldwork at the site of Santa Margarida (Martorell) started last 12th of July and will last until the 30th. Several GRAMP researchers take part in the archaeological campaign. The excavation tasks are devoted to the study of Early Christian structures. Undergraduate students at the University of Barcelona are engaged in fieldwork tasks as part of their training in Field Archaeology.

Attendance at the 16th Iberian Congress of Information Systems and Technologies (CISTI’2021)

The GRAMP attended at the 16th Iberian Congress of Information Systems and Technologies (CISTI’2021) this afternoon. Our PhD candidate Sonia Medina took part in the doctoral symposium organized in the framework of this meeting. With the talk entitled “Developing integrated research in Historical Science: Transdisciplinary strategies for information management and exploitation” Sonia introduced her ongoing research project about data integration from written and archaeological sources of historical information in a highly technological context.

Attendance to the On-line Workshop “Medieval Settlements”

GRAMP members were present at the On-line Workshop “Medieval Settlements” this morning. This was a debate forum about settlement patterns in the Middle Age with a strongly methodological approach. We introduced the communication entitled “Integration of data from written and archaeological sources: A methodological approach and a case study in the Upper Arlanza Basin. The Site of Revenga (Burgos), ss. V-XI ”.

Participants recruitment for the archaeological fieldwork at L’Esquerda 2021

Registration for the archaeological excavation fieldwork is now open. Fieldwork will take place between August 23th and September 4th if allowed by the COVID crisis and circumstances made it possible. If you are interested, please fill out the form on the website.
